Rogue Traders

With the weather getting warmer, we look to make home improvements, rogue traders can take advantage of this and often turn up unannounced on the doorstep suggesting work needs done to the roof, garden or driveway. They offer the work at a low price which can drastically increase without any consultation, and the work is often carried out to a substandard quality.

You do not have to accept the offer of any work being carried out. If you feel at all uncomfortable say no and close the door. If they do not leave, phone 999 and ask for police.

The East Lothian Trusted Trader scheme allows you to safely choose a vetted local trader to carry out work; they follow a strict code of practice enforced by Trading Standards and will not turn up at your home unannounced.
