Gas Network Upgrade - Alloa

The following safety message has been circulated on behalf of SGN

We will shortly begin work to upgrade our gas network within the Forth Crescent area of Alloa.

This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe, ensuring a continued safe and reliable gas supply to the local community. It will also ensure our network is ready for green sources of energy, such as hydrogen, in future.

We have planned our project in close consultation with the local authorities to reduce disruption as much as possible. Our project will begin on Monday 18th July and will be carried out by our contractor George Ritchie, Utilities on our behalf and will take approximately 12 weeks to complete.

During works local parking restrictions will be in place to allow our teams safe access to our existing pipes. Some local road closures and footway closures will also be in place, local diversion routes will be in operation during this time. Works close to Park Primary school will be carried out during the summer school holidays to minimise disruption.

The following footway and road closure will be in operation, alternative walkways will be available during this time.

  • Footway closure:
  • East Castle Street (south footway) between Park Primary & Forth Crescent.

  • Road Closure:
  • Hillcrest Drive at junction with Clackmannan Road (westerly junction).

Temporary road signals will also be in use during our excavation works on Clackmannan Road, these may cause delays during busy peak periods.

Access will be given to driveways and entrance gates at all times unless previously agreed with the occupier. As works will be carried out on a phased basis not all restrictions will be in place at the same time.

Emergency vehicle access will be maintained throughout our works.

We are as committed to protecting our customers and our colleagues now, as we were at the start of the coronavirus outbreak and continue to follow all UK and Scottish Government guidance. We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our customers from catching or spreading the virus as we carry out our safety-critical project.

Our colleagues will be keeping to social distancing guidelines on our sites and we would ask communities to keep their distance too.

We have written to residents and other local stakeholders to make them aware of our project and explain the details of our work. Please feel free to also share this information with anyone you think may be impacted by our project.

If you have any specific enquiries about this project, please call us on 0800 912 1700 and our customer experience team will be happy to help.

We will be working as quickly as possible to complete our work, and will be making every effort to minimise inconvenience to the local community and commuters.
