Secure Your Home, Protect What Matters |

Dear Resident
With the darker nights well and truly here we want to share our new campaign with you, ‘Secure Your Home, Protect What Matters’.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about Theft By Housebreakings as well providing guidance to you all about some proactive steps you can take to protect your home and valuables.
Review Your Security
When was the last time you checked your locks, alarms, and cameras?
Consider fitting a monitored alarm system. Keep doors locked and don’t leave keys on the inside of locks. Fit door and window restrictors. Laminated glass should be used in doors and for windows adjacent to doors. Use handle locks that restrict unintended use of patio door handles from the inside.
Are Your Boundaries Effective?
Fences around your property should remain low and allow view of the front aspect but can be higher to the sides and rear whilst also restricting view and access. Gates should be well maintained and capable of being locked. Use approved type padlocks. Gravel driveways are noisy to walk on, a good deterrent. Ensure your wheelie bin can’t be used to climb on and access windows/roofs.
Lock Your Sheds & Garages
Install additional locks to the inside of garage doors. A T-Bar lock outside is a good visual deterrent. Fit grilles or cover from view screens to the inside of windows.
Don’t forget to lock sheds and garages!
Consider Lighting and CCTV
Motion sensor lights detect movement and provide a better picture if located in conjunction with CCTV.
Secure and Photograph Your Valuables
Use property marking kits to mark valuables. Take photographs of jewellery and other expensive items. Install a safe. Consider storing expensive or irreplaceable items away from home, such as a bank safe or private company.
