Climbing Aids, Windows and Alarms |
||
|
Hi Everyone, This post is a wee reminder about climbing aids, windows and house alarms.
The security of first floor windows is sometimes overlooked, so if your property has upper floors check…
Are any windows easily accessible by climbing on to extensions, garages, trees or walls. Are there ladders, drainpipes or garden furniture that could aid climbing. Are accessible windows fitted with appropriate key operated locks and restrictors. If you have a house alarm accessible windows should be linked into the system. Consider vibration sensors for large panes of glass – patio, bi-fold doors, conservatories.
If you decide you have items of sufficient value to warrant installing a safe, please also consider fitting a house alarm. Police Scotland would recommend using companies that are members of either: National Security Inspectorate (NSI) – www.nsi.org.uk Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB) – www.ssaib.org
Remember that a safety deposit box is always an alternative option to a safe within your home.
When the weather does finally improve, please do not leave windows open when you leave home, even on upper floors. If a thief were to see this it could be enough to encourage them on to your property in the hope of finding further insecurities.
For further information please contact the Crime Prevention Team via edinburghpreventandintervent@scotland.police.uk
If you see anyone acting suspiciously near to your property or vehicle, please contact the police immediately with as detailed a description as possible of any person or vehicle involved. Please call 999 in an emergency and urgent police assistance is required or 101 for non-emergency, to report the matter to the police. | ||
